By applying for, purchasing or renewing a SASSLA membership, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.
1. SASSLA Membership
SASSLA provides members with access to professional support, resources, advocacy, industry expertise and other member benefits relevant to school and education leadership. Membership benefits, services and inclusions may change from time to time as SASSLA responds to the needs of its members and the education sector. Membership is personal to the individual member and must not be transferred or shared unless expressly agreed by SASSLA.
2. Professional Guidance and Advice
SASSLA provides members with access to information, guidance and, where applicable, advice from experienced industry professionals and qualified legal practitioners. The nature of leadership means every situation is different. General information, resources, publications, presentations, training and other materials provided by SASSLA are intended to support members in understanding and navigating relevant issues, but should not be treated as advice tailored to a member's individual circumstances unless expressly provided as such. Where individual legal or professional advice is provided, its scope will depend on the particular matter, information supplied by the member and any terms communicated in relation to that advice. Members are responsible for providing complete and accurate information and for making their own decisions having regard to their individual circumstances.
3. No Guarantee of Outcomes
SASSLA aims to provide high-quality, practical and informed support to its members. However, SASSLA cannot guarantee a particular outcome arising from advice, representation, advocacy, negotiations, disputes, employment matters, legal matters or interactions with third parties. Decisions made by employers, government bodies, courts, tribunals, regulators and other third parties remain outside SASSLA's control.
4. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SASSLA, its officers, employees, representatives, consultants and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss or damage arising from or connected with membership, use of SASSLA services or reliance on information or general guidance provided by SASSLA. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, SASSLA's liability will be limited to the extent permitted by applicable law. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified, including any applicable rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Any legal services provided to members may also be subject to separate professional obligations, engagement terms and applicable professional standards legislation.
5. 14-Day Cooling-Off Period
New members may cancel their membership within 14 calendar days of the date their membership commences. To exercise the cooling-off right, the member must notify SASSLA in writing within the 14-day period. Subject to any rights or obligations that cannot be excluded by law, SASSLA will refund membership fees paid during the cooling-off period. SASSLA should obtain specific legal advice on whether the refund remains available where a member has already accessed substantial individual legal or professional assistance during the cooling-off period, and any deduction SASSLA may lawfully make in those circumstances. After the 14-day cooling-off period has expired, membership fees are generally non-refundable for change of mind, subject to any rights available under applicable law.
6. Membership Fees and Renewal
Membership fees are determined by SASSLA and may vary according to membership category or other applicable criteria. SASSLA may change its membership fees from time to time. Where practicable, members will be advised of changes before their next renewal. Membership continues for the applicable membership period and is subject to SASSLA's renewal requirements. Any automatic renewal arrangements, where offered, will be disclosed to members before payment or renewal.
7. Availability of Services
SASSLA will use reasonable efforts to make its membership services and support available when required. However, access to particular advisers, lawyers, representatives, events, resources or services may be subject to availability, urgency, complexity, eligibility and the nature of the member's request. Membership does not guarantee immediate or unlimited access to any particular adviser or service unless expressly stated otherwise.
8. Advocacy and Representation
As a member association, SASSLA may advocate on issues affecting school leaders and the broader education sector. SASSLA's advocacy positions may reflect the interests and experiences of its membership collectively and will not necessarily reflect the individual view of every member. Membership does not guarantee that SASSLA will pursue a particular policy position, advocacy outcome or individual representation requested by a member.
9. Member Responsibilities
Members are expected to engage with SASSLA respectfully, provide accurate information when seeking assistance, maintain the confidentiality of information intended for members only, and use SASSLA resources and services for their intended purpose. SASSLA reserves the right to suspend or terminate membership where a member seriously or repeatedly breaches these Terms and Conditions, applicable membership rules or standards of conduct, subject to any requirements contained in SASSLA's constitution or governing documents.
10. Privacy and Confidentiality
SASSLA respects the privacy and confidentiality of its members. Personal information will be collected, used, stored and disclosed in accordance with SASSLA's Privacy Policy and applicable privacy laws. Information shared when seeking professional or legal assistance will be handled according to applicable confidentiality and professional obligations. Members should note that legal professional privilege does not automatically apply to every communication with SASSLA simply because a legal practitioner is involved.
11. Website and Resources
Information published on the SASSLA website, in newsletters, publications, training materials or other resources is provided for general informational purposes unless expressly stated otherwise. While SASSLA takes reasonable care to ensure information is accurate and current, legislation, policies, industrial arrangements and education-sector requirements may change. Members should seek advice relevant to their individual circumstances where appropriate.
12. Changes to These Terms
SASSLA may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time to reflect changes to its membership offering, operations or legal obligations. Where a change materially affects existing members' rights or obligations, SASSLA will provide reasonable notice where required or appropriate.
13. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia. The parties submit to the jurisdiction of the courts and tribunals of South Australia and any courts competent to hear appeals from them.
