The Band B Workforce: Current Realities and Future Development Opportunities

SASSLA's discussion paper The Band B Workforce: Current Realities and Future Development Opportunities provides a grounded and transparent analysis of contemporary Band B employment issues and opportunities for positive change. The discussion paper sets out the history of Band B employment and seeks to discover what has changed, why it has changed and what is needed to build for the future. A thorough review of Band B employment is a high priority for two reasons:

  • The changing work demands in schools that are redefining and continuously expanding the work of the Band B workforce.
  • The introduction of a new Band A principal structure that has changed the established relationship and relativities with Band B employment.

SASSLA will continue our focus on Band B employment reform as part of our Employment Priorities for 2027 - 2029; we will once again present our reasoning for leadership employment reform via advocacy channels.
